OMG!!! Reliance Jio’s Services Will End on 1st February
Hello Jio users! There is one bad news for you. Reliance Jio’s services will end on 1st February, 2017. As we all know that Jio’s free offer may well end before 31st March, 2017.
It’s because after suffering huge losses, Reliance Jio rivals are in no mood to relent and allow the Jio free services. Yesterday, 30th January, 2017, Country’s second largets telecom operator, Vodafone India moved Delhi High Court alleging that telecom regulator TRAI had failed to prohibit “blatant violation” of its tariff orders, directions and regulations by Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIO) by permitting it to continue with its free offers.
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva listed the problems for hearing on February one as RJIO had not been made a party in the matter. Vodafone India filed the petition in the Delhi High Court and Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva has set the hearing date for 1st February, 2017.
Reliance Jio has not been named a party in this matter, which means that any order the High court passes on Tuesday will affect the new telco.
Vodafone India has claimed that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has also failed to implement Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) circulars which lay down that all tariffs must be compliant of inter-connection usage charges (IUC), non-discriminatory and non-predatory.
Reliance Jio started its free services in September, 2016, which was to end on 31st December, 2016. But the telecom operator made a surprise announcement of extended its free services till 31st March, 2017 by making some tweets to the original “Welcome Offer”.
And they are launching the new scheme as “Happy New Year” offer. Clearly, this did not sit too well with the incumbents and started to protest Jio’s free data and voice call services extensively.
Idea Cellular and Airtel have also raised a plea with TDSAT, looking for some action against TRAI for allowing Jio continues its free operations in the country.
TDSAT has set the hearing for Airtel and Idea’s pleas on 1st February, 2017.
