PM Narendra Modi: The TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year 2016
Today, 5th December, 2016, PM Narendra Modi was declared as the winner of TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year-Reader’s Poll.
The TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year 2016:
As per TIME Magazine, PM Narendra Modi won with 18 per cent of the vote when the poll closed yesterday, 4th December, 2016 at midnight.
TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year 2016 will be announced on 7th December, 2016. The person of year 2016 is selected by TIME Magazine editors.
PM Modi placed well ahead of his closest contenders that include Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Julian Assange, who all received 7% of the “yes” vote.
Narendra Modi also placed far ahead of other well-known figures of this year 2016 such as Mark Zuckerberg (2%) and Hillary Clinton (4%).
It is not the first time that PM Modi won the TIME person of the year title. It is the second time Modi has won the title. This year 2016 is the fourth year in a row when Modi is among the contenders for Time’s ‘Person of the Year’ honour.
PM Modi had also won the reader’s poll in 2014. Last year in 2015, German Chancellor Angela Merkel was won Time’s ‘Person of the Year’ title.
Every year, TIME’s Magazine selects the most influential person of the year, noting, for better or for worse, the person or group of people who have had the largest global impact over the past 12 months.
This year in 2016, poll was conducted in partnership with Opentopic and IBM’s Watson. In that way assisting TIME editors to see how candidates were influential on the Internet.
